Pool Deck Raising with PolyLevel
Challenge
This Somerset, NJ homeowner was experiencing sinking concrete around their pool deck area. Trip hazards formed making the pool area unsafe for their family and guest. Since not all slabs were effected, concrete replacement was not an option because that would mean different color concrete around the pool. They wanted a solution to raise and stabilize the settling slabs to keep their pool deck all one color. So they contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems for our Concrete Raising System, PolyLevel.
Solution
PolyLevel is a light weight, waterproof material that is environmentally friendly. We found that the cause of concrete settlement is actually the soil underneath the slab. When soil is poorly compacted, too wet or too dry it becomes weak. The weak soil can no longer support the weight of heavy concrete causing settlement. This can cause voids under the slab and create trip hazards on the surface. PolyLevel is the perfect solution for this problem because of its light weight but strong material.
Upon arrival our crew does a full walk through to ensure all planters and furniture are away from the installation. The team will measure the depth and width of each slab to determine how much is needed to lift the slab back towards its original position. Our team drills holes into each concrete slab. Using special equipment, the polyurethane foam is injected underneath each slab. PolyLevel expands to raise the slab then it hardens to stabilize it. With mud jacking, you are left with very noticeable, large holes. With PolyLevel, the holes are small penny-size holes that get covered with concrete and go unnoticed.
