Concrete Patio Raised in Wayne, NJ
Challenge
A Wayne, New Jersey Resident reached out to our System Design Specialist, Javier, about concerns with their backyard concrete patio. They noticed that over time, sections of their patio had sunk which created large cracks. At first, the movement of the slab was very small but, gradually over time the settlement grew to a few inches which they knew would get worse if ignored. Upon inspection Javier measurement up to 5 inches of settlement across the entire concrete area. He explained to the homeowner that over time the soil underneath their concrete area had become weak and could no longer support the weight of the concrete patio. The soil weakens when it becomes either too wet or too dry over time.
Solution
Javier recommended our Concrete Raising System known as PolyLevel, to lift and level the sunken concrete area. To provide additional support underneath each section, our crew must first drill small penny- size holes into each settled section of concrete. Using special equipment, our crew begins to inject PolyLevel underneath so that the foam can expand and fill any voids between the soil and concrete. As PolyLevel expands, it begins to raise the slab back towards its original position. Once our team sees that the area is leveled, injection stops and the PolyLevel foam begins to harden to permanently stabilize the area. This system is waterproof and environmentally friendly making it safe to have near gardens and plants. Once stabilized the cracks are sealed with our joint sealant known as NexusPro.
