Basement Waterproofing in Scotch Plains, NJ
Challenge
A resident in Scotch Plains, New Jersey was experiencing wet spots and water seepage in their basement. Their sump pump was not draining water out and not doing a proper job. This is water damage is caused by backfill saturation. Backfill is the dirt outside of the basement walls. When it gets saturated with water, it puts hydrostatic pressure on the walls and the floors. Water leaks in this way from the dirt outside to the soil under the basement floor. Since air flows from the basement into the upper levels of the home, it brings in humidity. A damp basement can have many negative effects such as, condensation, mold, increased heating and cooling bills, and even mold upstairs.
Solution
The homeowner called Quality 1st Basement Systems and our System Design Specialist, Javier Romero, helped them with this issue. He suggested they replace their old sump pump, and to also install a French drain system. Our foreman, Esau Aquino, installed the TripleSafe Sump Pump System that has an airtight lid which prevents the pool of water sitting in the sump hole from evaporating into the basement. This sump pump also has a backup battery in case of any power outages. Our foreman also installed the WaterGuard Drain System which sits on top of the footing, and is installed along the perimeter of the basement. This drain system will not clog and drains water to the sump pump. With these systems in place, mold and water damage will not be a concern to the homeowner any longer.
