Waterproof Basement in North Bergen, NJ
Challenge
Homeowner in North Bergen, New Jersey was experiencing water damage in their basement. Moisture was coming in through the bottom of the walls and floors during periods of heavy rainfall. They were also experiencing musty odors in the basement. A common cause of this issue is the soil that is surrounding the foundation. Water saturates the soil and during persistent rainfall, the saturated soil creates hydrostatic pressure. This pressure pushes moisture and water through the basement walls and floors. Excess moisture will increase the growth of mold, dust mites, and insects. The poor air quality in the basement can affect a homeowner's health badly.
Solution
The homeowner called Quality 1st Basement Systems because they saw our ads online. Our System Design Specialist, Mike DiVirgilio, helped them find a solution to fix this issue. When he inspected the home, Mike suggested they install a French drain system, a sump pump system, and a vapor barrier system along the bottom of the wall. Our foreman, Esau Aquino, installed the SuperSump Pump System which has an enclosed lid to prevent moisture from getting into the basement. This sump pump will pump water out and away from the home. It has a backup battery that will kick in, just in case of power outages. Next, the foreman installed the WaterGuard Drain System. This system is installed under the slab and sits on top of the foundation footing. It is designed to capture water seepage before it reaches the basement floor. Lastly, the foreman installed the CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System along the bottom half of the walls. This barrier will seal off any outside elements from getting into the basement. With these systems in place, this basement is now waterproof.
