Crawl Space Foundation Repair in Morris Plains, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Morris Plains, New Jersey noticed their floors were sagging. This is a symptom of foundation settlement and should be repaired right away. This can be caused by the existing columns being spaced too far apart. Since these columns are supporting the weight of the structure above, the beams can become overloaded and sag in between the columns. Another cause is that weak soil can cause the existing columns in the crawl space to sink or settle, and creates a gap between the top of the column and the bottom of the girder it was supporting. If gone unrepaired, foundation settlement issues will continue to arise, and it can become costly to repair.
Solution
The homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems and our System Design Specialist, Mike Fiorillo, was able to provide an inspection of the home. Upon his inspection, Mike noticed how the floors were sagging and becoming unlevel, and he suggested a crawl space support system to stabilize the home. Our foreman, Esau Aquino, installed the SmartJack Reinforcement System which will permanently stabilize the home. This is done by removing soil where each SmartJack will be installed. Then, the hole is filled with concrete to create a stable footing. The base is positioned on top to hold the beams in place. Then, high-strength steel tubing is assembled and connected to the support beam and the system is tightened into place. The support beams and floor joists are immediately stabilized and the floors above are lifted back toward level.
