Basement Waterproofing and Flooring Options in North Brunswick, NJ
Challenge
The owners of this North Brunswick, NJ home wanted to reclaim their basement space and make it a usable area. The couple experienced recurring basement flooding and musty smells which caused them to stop using the basement entirely a few years ago. The basement made up half of the square footage of the home, which is a lot of unused space. During inspection, Ken Peare, found a very large open space which had an insufficient sump pump, an abandoned finished section that was severely water damaged, and a water stained foundation.
Solution
The first step of the basement waterproofing process was to remove the finished section of the basement. The finished pieces like sheetrock were beyond repair. The next step was to install a full perimeter WaterGuard system in the basement. WaterGuard works by draining the water to the sump pump and out of the basement. A TripleSafe sump pump was installed to work with the WaterGuard system; the TripleSafe sump pump contains three different pumps with a battery backup pump ensuring that this basement will stay dry all of the time.
The ZenWall System provided a vapor barrier and wall drain that connect down to the WaterGuard system while offering a beautiful finished wall panel with an insulated foil back and wall insulation. The Mocha ThermalDry Carpet tiles that were installed will improve this floor temperature by ten degrees and give the basement a nice finished floor that is perfect for their basement. A SunHouse window well was installed which will keep dirt and water away from the basement window preventing water from leaking into the basement. The SunHouse window well also reflects more natural sunlight into the basement brightening the space. The homeowners told Ken that "it was like a brand new basement!" They are now able to take advantage of this extra space to use for their grandchildren to play and storage.
