Crawl Space Doors and Encapsulation in Parsippany, NJ
Challenge
A Parsippany, New Jersey homeowner had dealt with cold floors, damp smells, and sagging floors for ten years. A previous customer with Quality 1st Basement Systems showed the homeowner his crawl space encapsulation system and recommended that he call Quality 1 and get a free estimate. Inspector Ken Peare found ill fitted, unsecured crawl space doors, which not only affect air flow, but the security of the house. The crawl space was damp with high humidity, and rotted insulation hanging from the ceiling. The main support beam was not up to code and was compromised because of the high humidity levels. Cinder blocks holding up the main support beam were not level and not correctly supported. On the main level of the homeowner’s house, doors were stuck and unlevel because of the crawl space below.
Solution
Quality 1st Basement Systems removed the rotting insulation and organic debris, so that mold would not grow. Fifteen SmartJacks were installed, sistering a main beam with pressure treaded timber to provide support to the floor above. There is no comparable support that offers the same strength as the SmartJack support system. Then, a total crawl space encapsulation system was installed. CleanSpace and SilverGlo insulation will keep the crawl space free of water vapor and will lower the humidity. SilverGlo insulates at the source of the cold – the floor and walls. Many crawl spaces are insulated at the ceiling with fiber glass, but this doesn’t trap air as well as only adds a band aid to the problem. EverLast crawl space doors are inorganic, sealed, and secure the entrance properly. The encapsulation system separates the living space and building material from the damp earth. CleanSpace looks great, keeps the crawl space clean and is durable enough to crawl on. Now this crawl space can be used for storage.
A SaniDry CX crawl space air system was installed, which will dehumidify the damp air and filter dust mite dropping and mold spores. These common allergens can drift up to ground level and make homeowners sick, but they will now be kept out of the air. Dehumidifying the air will keep it at a stable moisture level, which will save the homeowner on heating and cooling costs. New EverLast crawl space doors replaced the old plywood doors. Within 48 hours, the homeowner noticed a huge difference in air quality, and his doors are no longer slanted. His house is now safe, and his crawl space is dry and secured, thanks to the SmartJacks and the crawl space encapsulation system.
