Moldy Basement in Brielle, New Jersey

An apartment complex in Brielle, New Jersey had water coming into the basement. Even worse, mold was growing, especially in the storage areas. The property owners called Quality 1st Basement Systems for a free estimate on how to waterproof the apartments, get rid of the mold, and keep the mold gone for good. Basement specialist Keith MacFarlane inspected the property and found water seeping in through the walls and the perimeter of the floor wall joint. There was visible mold all over the walls and on the tenants’ stored items. This was creating a dangerous living environment for the apartment residents, so it had to be waterproofed and fixed.

Solution

The humidity of the basement was very high, which made it an ideal space for mold to grow and thrive. In order to keep it down, CleanSpace wall was installed. CleanSpace is made out of thick plastic that keeps water vapor out. Paired with SaniDry dehumidifiers, they keep the humidity down below 50%, eliminating mold growth and cleaning the air. These were all the best products for this moldy basement, because they solved the root of the problem. Simply removing mold and keeping the basement the same just enables the mold to come back. This entire waterproofing system will make sure that mold does not return. Now the property owner is a very happy and satisfied client. The tenants in the apartment complex now have a healthy and safe environment and their storage will be mold free and dry.

Mold was growing on the walls in this wet apartment complex basement. It was creating a dangerous environment, since mold is a common allergen.

After heavy rains, this basement floor got wet and stayed very humid. The humidity allowed mold to grow.

The WaterGuard basement drain is covered with a layer of concrete, so it is invisible yet hard working. WaterGuard drains water from the wall and floor and keeps basements dry.

Quality 1st Basement Systems installed a full perimeter WaterGuard drainage system, a half basement wall restoration in the finished areas, CleanSpace basement walling, and several SaniDry dehumidifiers. The WaterGuard drainage system eliminated water seepage by collecting water between the wall and floor. WaterGuard is a patented drain that is installed inside of the house and covered with a layer of concrete. Drain systems installed outside of the house can clog up with mud and are not as efficient or easy to install as WaterGuard. Now when it rains, water will drain to the WaterGuard and filter to a sump pump, where it will be redirected and drained outside of the apartment complex.
