Transforming a Basement: A Deep Dive into Waterproofing a Blackwood, NJ Home
In our recent project in Blackwood, NJ, we helped a homeowner turn a frustrating situation into a dry, comfortable living space. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the process we followed, ensuring this leaky basement stays dry all of the time.
Step 1: Initial Consultation
The journey began with a phone call from the homeowner, who was understandably frustrated with their partially-finished basement. Each time it rained, they faced water seeping in, turning their space into a damp area. Our Customer Care team quickly set up an appointment for a free home inspection, commiting to prompt service.
Step 2: Thorough Home Inspection
During the scheduled visit, our System Design Specialist, Phil conducted a comprehensive examination of the basement. This crucial step involved assessing the current conditions, including the extent of water intrusion and identifying potential sources of leaks. Photos and notes were taking throughout the inspection for maximum accuracy when proposing a solution to the basement's issues.
Step 3: Tailored Proposal and Solution
After gathering all necessary information, we proposed a customized solution designed to meet the homeowner's and basement's specific needs. The proposed system included:
-
WaterGuard Interior Drainage System: This innovative drainage system is installed along the perimeter of the basement floor to capture water that seeps through the wall and floor seams, directing it to the sump pump for removal.
-
TripleSafe Sump Pump: A cornerstone of our waterproofing solutions, the TripleSafe Sump Pump features three levels of pumping capacity. It is equipped with a primary pump, a backup pump, and a battery-operated backup to ensure the basement remains dry, even during power outages.
-
IceGuard: To prevent water backup during the winter months, we included IceGuard in the system. This feature prevents frozen discharge lines from obstructing the flow of water, providing additional peace of mind.
Step 4: Installation Process
Once the homeowner approved the proposal, our production team set a date for installation. The process was carried out efficiently, with careful attention to detail and respect for the homeowner’s property.
-
Preparation: Our team, led by our Foreman, Wilver arrived on time and prepared the area for installation, ensuring minimal disruption to the household.
-
WaterGuard Installation: The team began by excavating a trench around the perimeter of the basement, where the WaterGuard system would be installed. This involved precise measurements and careful handling of existing structures.
-
Sump Pump Installation: Next, we installed the TripleSafe Sump Pump in a designated sump pit, ensuring it was securely in place and connected to the WaterGuard system.
-
IceGuard Integration: Finally, the IceGuard system was installed to protect against winter-related issues, further enhancing the longevity and effectiveness of the waterproofing solution. The IceGuard is included in the process of installing the buried discharge line, directing collected water away from the home.
Throughout the installation, we maintained a clean work environment, ensuring the homeowner felt comfortable and respected.
Step 5: Final Inspection and Clean-Up
After the installation was complete, our team conducted a final inspection to ensure everything was functioning correctly. We tested the sump pump and drainage system, confirming that water would be effectively managed and redirected away from the basement.
Following the inspection, we thoroughly cleaned the work area, leaving the basement and surrounding spaces in great condition. Our goal is always to leave the home better than we found it.
