Challenge
The homeowners in this Caldwell, NJ residence were experiencing water on their basement floor. The finished basement consisted of a utility room, playroom, and office that the family could no longer use because of the water flooding the basement. Mr. S worked from home occasionally and had to relocate his office from the basement to the first floor. Upon inspection, it was determined that the sump pump was not adequate for the home, and the home did not have a perimeter drain system. The homeowners had piled all of their belonging in the middle of the basement in anticipation of the next rain storm.
Solution
Quality 1st Basement Systems System Design Specialist, Dan, recommended the installation of a full perimeter basement waterproof system, WaterGard, which is used with a TripleSafe battery-backup sump pump. The WaterGuard will drain water from the wall, footing, and wall joint and from under the floor. It will direct the water to the TripleSafe sump pump which will then pump the water away from the home. The TripleSafe has a cast iron backup and battery back-up to make the chance of pump failure statistically insignificant. IceGuards were used on the discharge line which will prevent the water from freezing on the outside of the home.
The lower portion of the walls were replaced with EverLast Wall Restoration Panels. EverLast Basement Wall Restoration is ideal because the basement is useable within just a few days. These basement wall panels are unaffected by water and moisture. No need to spackle, tape or paint. It is all done in one easy step. EverLast panels come with a very attractive inorganic base trim and chair rail. Quality 1st Basement Systems installed a SaniDry basement dehumidifier. The SaniDry dehumidifier will remove up to 100 pints of moisture per day out of the basement space while filtering particles in the air down to 2 microns in size. This includes mold spores, dust mite droppings, and odors which all caused allergy symptoms for this family. The SaniDry dehumidifier does all of this while operating at a very energy efficient 6.8 amps.
