Basement Waterproofing and Crawl Space Repair in Montclair, NJ
Challenge
The buyers of this Montclair, NJ property contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems because we had previously worked on another home for them. Upon inspection, Nick Biris found an open sump pump pit in the basement at the bottom of the stairs. Because of its proximity to the stairs, it presented a safety hazard for anyone using the stairs. The homeowners feared that someone would fall in the home. The basement was also damp and lacked a proper dehumidification system and had another open sump pump pit. The crawl space of this home had a opening which caused it to be exposed to outside air and moisture. Nick assesed the entire property and determined that they needed to repair both the basement and the crawl space.
Solution
Quality 1st Basement Systems replaced the existing sump pump with a TripleSafe sump pump which has a battery back-up and air tight cover which prevents moisture from getting back into the basement. Nick had also recommended a SaniDry basement air system that would properly dehumidify and filter the air in the basement. At the rear of the basement steps, a trench drain was put in to drain any water rolling in from the steps and a new SuperSump sump pump was installed at the steps to remove the risk of someone falling into the open hold that was there previously. The SuperSump was positioned away from the bottom of the stairs to keep the basement dry and safe.
To encapsulate the crawl space, CleanSpace clean space encapsulation system was installed. An EverLast crawl space door was installed to seal off the crawl space from outside air, stopping excess humidity in the crawl space. The installation crew also installed a smart drain in the crawl space so that in the event of any plumbing leaks in the crawl space, the crawl space would stay dry. The now owners of this home are very happy with their new healthy, safe underground space!
