Crawl Space Encapsulation in Maspeth, NY
Challenge
A Maspeth, New York resident was worried for their crawl space's health. The dirt crawl space was attracting rodents, bugs, and was overall in bad shape. One of the main issues with a dirt crawl space is the moisture from the dirt beneath the home. Water vapor from the ground evaporates and moves upward into the home. While there were no signs of mold growth in the crawl space, the homeowner knew that moisture in their crawl space could lead to mold growth, poor air quality, and even rotting floors.
Solution
After seeing our ads online, the homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems and our System Design Specialist, Javier Hoyos Romero, inspected the home. During his inspection, Javier suggested that they encapsulate their crawl space to prevent any water damage, mold, and to keep pests away. Our foreman, Wilver Cardoza, first installed the Drainage Matting to rest directly on the crawl space floor. This will prevent any water from damaging the crawl space floor. Then, the foreman installed the CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System to lay over the drainage matting. This system is made of plastic layers designed to specifically protect the crawl space. The foreman installs it by removing any debris and rocks, and leveled any uneven surfaces. The liner is held in place with drilled in fasteners and spikes. The plastic liner is waterproof and resistant to mold. This system also creates a seal against the elements, which prevents any moisture from entering through the dirt. The CleanSpace barrier brightens up the crawl space, to give it a clean appearance.
