Crawl Space Encapsulation in Union, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Union, New Jersey was experiencing moisture and humidity in their crawl space. The reason moisture gets into the crawl space is because of the soil surrounding the foundation. This soil becomes saturated during periods of heavy rainfall and creates hydrostatic pressure, which pushes water and moisture through the walls. While there were no indications of mold growth in the crawl space, the homeowner knew that moisture in their crawl space could lead to mold growth, reduced air quality, and even rotting floorboards.
Solution
The homeowner called Quality 1st Basement Systems after seeing our ads on Instagram and Facebook, and our System Design Specialist, Dane Cuccinello, was able to provide an inspection and help them find a plan. Upon his inspection, he noticed the moisture in the crawl space and suggested they encapsulate the entire crawl space, to separate the earth from the crawl space. Our foreman first installed the Drainage Matting to rest directly on the crawl space floor. This will prevent any water from damaging the crawl space floor. Then, the foreman installed the CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System to lay over the drainage matting. This system is constructed of plastic layers designed to specifically protect the crawl space. The foreman installs it by removing any rocks and debris from the crawl space and then levels any uneven surfaces. The plastic liner is waterproof and resistant to mold, and it is secured in place with drilled fasteners and spikes. This system also creates a seal against the elements, which blocks any moisture from entering through the dirt. The CleanSpace barrier polishes up the crawl space, giving it a bright appearance that is perfect for storage.
