Moisture Barrier in Crawl Space in Jersey City, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Jersey City, New Jersey was experiencing moisture and water seeping into their crawl space walls. This can happen because of the soil surrounding the foundation. Over time the soil settles and becomes saturated during periods of heavy rainfall. The saturated soil creates hydrostatic pressure and pushes water through the walls. A wet crawl space has many negative effects such as insects, mold growth, dust mites, increased energy bills, and even pests. The air in the crawl space can travel to the upper levels of the home and create musty smells upstairs.
Solution
The homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems and our System Design Specialist provided an inspection of the home. Upon inspection, the System Design Specialist saw that the crawl space was damp and had a musty smell, and suggested a vapor barrier system. A vapor barrier system would separate the crawl space from the earth, so no moisture would not be able to get inside. Our foreman installed the CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System which is a thick liner that acts as a barrier to seal the crawl space from the earth. This system will seal the crawl space from the earth. The crawl space will now be protected from moisture, mold, rotting, dirt, and water. The team also suggest SmartJack Stabilizers to provide additional support to the crawl space beams that were damaged due to the moisture throughout the space.
