Damp Crawl Space Solution in Ridgewood, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Ridgewood, New Jersey noticed their crawl space was attracting water and moisture. This happens because the poorly compacted soil around the foundation becomes saturated during heavy rainfall. This saturated soil creates hydrostatic pressure, which pushes water to seep through the walls and floors. The homeowner knew that over time if ignored, the crawl space would become nasty creating poor quality air that would eventually travel up into the home. A damp crawl space can have many negative effects such as dust mites, pests, musty smells, increased energy bills, and even mold growth.
Solution
The homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems, and our System Design Specialist, Laszlo Lenkey, was able to provide an inspection of the crawl space. Upon his inspection, Laszlo noticed how the crawl space was not sealed from the earth. Laszlo suggested they encapsulate the crawl space to keep the moisture out. Our foreman, Esau Aquino, installed the CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System throughout the crawl space. This system is a liner that is thick like a pool liner, meaning it will not easily rip or tear. This system will stop moisture from passing through the crawl space walls, and will stop seepage coming up through the concrete floors. The installation process is done by removing any debris and rocks, and leveling uneven surfaces. The CleanSpace liner is then carefully fitted to the crawl space and permanently held in place with drilled-in fasteners and spikes. Now, the homeowner has a clean, and bright crawl space where they can put their storage safely.
