Challenge

A crawl space should be dry and healthy, not damp and smelly! This homeowner in Somerville, New Jersey noticed moisture and musty smells coming from their crawl space. Moisture can get into a crawl space if it's not sealed from the earth's elements. Dirt and soil can hold moisture, which will eventually rise into the air of the crawl space, and into the upper levels of your home. The homeowner knew that moisture in their crawl space could lead to mold growth, increased energy bills, smelly carpets, aggravated allergies, and even rotting floorboards!

Solution

The homeowner called Quality 1st Basement Systems and our customer care representative booked them an appointment with our System Design Specialist, JC Gibriano. JC provided a thorough inspection and suggested they encapsulate the crawl space to separate it from the soil. Our foreman installed our Drainage Matting to rest directly on the crawl space floor. This will prevent any water from damaging the crawl space floor. Then, we installed our CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System to lay over the drainage matting. This system is made of plastic layers designed to protect the crawl space. It's installed by removing any rocks and debris from the crawl space and leveling uneven surfaces. CleanSpace is waterproof and mold-resistant and is secured in place with drilled fasteners and spikes. This system also creates a seal against the elements, which blocks any moisture from entering. Not only will the homeowner have a dry and healthy home, but they will have a healthy place for extra storage!
