Damp Crawl Space Solution in Little Silver, NJ
Challenge
This homeowner in Little Silver, New Jersey saw their crawl space was attracting moisture. This can happen because of the soil surrounding the foundation. Over time the soil settles and becomes saturated during periods of heavy rainfall. The saturated soil creates hydrostatic pressure and pushes water through the walls. Another factor could be that the crawl space is filled with dirt and moisture. Damp crawl spaces can have many negative effects such as insects, mold growth, dust mites, increased energy bills, and even pests. The air in the crawl space can travel to the upper levels of the home create musty smells upstairs, and even aggravate allergies.
Solution
The homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems after searching online, and our System Design Specialist, Jack Huber, provided an inspection of the home. Jack saw that the crawl space was damp and had a musty smell, and he suggested they encapsulate the space. Encapsulation would separate the crawl space from the earth, so moisture would not be able to get inside. Our foreman Mario installed our Drainage Matting and our CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System. Drainage matting is installed underneath CleanSpace, and it will catch any water that seeps through the floors. CleanSpace is a thick liner that acts as a barrier to prevent moisture and humidity from passing through. Not only does the homeowner have a crawl space that will stay protected from moisture, but it can be used for storage space! When the job was complete, the homeowner was satisfied with the results, and they didn't experience any other issues in the crawl space!
