A homeowner in Brigantine, NJ, reached out to us at Quality 1st Basement Systems with concerns about serious structural issues in their home. The first noticeable sign of trouble was the sagging of the first floor, which caused door frames to shift out of place. This raised alarms about potential foundation problems. The house, built on a crawl space, was also suffering from significant moisture issues, further exacerbating the situation. Upon contacting Quality 1st, the homeowner expressed concerns that the moisture in the crawl space was causing damage to the foundation, which was compromising the stability of the home. Solution

Our first step in solving the issue was to conduct a thorough inspection of the property. Ryan, our experienced System Design Specialist, identified that the root cause of the sagging floor and shifting door frames was a combination of moisture in the crawl space and insufficient support for the first floor. After assessing the situation, he proposed a comprehensive solution to address both the structural and moisture problems simultaneously.

CleanSpace Encapsulation System
To address the moisture in the crawl space, we recommended the installation of CleanSpace, a heavy-duty liner designed to encapsulate the entire crawl space. This durable material creates a moisture-proof barrier, effectively eliminating the excess moisture that was causing damage to the foundation and floors. The CleanSpace system helps ensure that the crawl space remains dry, preventing mold, rot, and further deterioration.
SmartJack Support System
To correct the sagging floors and provide the necessary support for the compromised joists, we installed the SmartJack support system. These adjustable, galvanized steel piers were strategically placed under the weakened floor joists to stabilize and lift the floors back into their original position. The system provides long-lasting support, preventing any future sagging.
