Foundation and Moisture Control Solutions for a Home in Brigantine, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Brigantine, NJ, reached out to us at Quality 1st Basement Systems with concerns about serious structural issues in their home. The first noticeable sign of trouble was the sagging of the first floor, which caused door frames to shift out of place. This raised alarms about potential foundation problems. The house, built on a crawl space, was also suffering from significant moisture issues, further exacerbating the situation. With these warning signs indicating potential structural instability, the homeowner knew they needed expert help to protect their home’s integrity.
Upon contacting Quality 1st, the homeowner expressed concerns that the moisture in the crawl space was causing damage to the foundation, which was compromising the stability of the home. Given the severity of the problem, it was clear that immediate action was necessary to avoid more extensive damage. To address this pressing issue, the homeowner was connected with our System Design Specialist, Ryan, who was tasked with diagnosing the root cause of the distress and recommending an appropriate solution.
Solution
Our first step in solving the issue was to conduct a thorough inspection of the property. Ryan, our experienced System Design Specialist, identified that the root cause of the sagging floor and shifting door frames was a combination of moisture in the crawl space and insufficient support for the first floor. After assessing the situation, he proposed a comprehensive solution to address both the structural and moisture problems simultaneously.
-
CleanSpace Encapsulation System
To address the moisture in the crawl space, we recommended the installation of CleanSpace, a heavy-duty liner designed to encapsulate the entire crawl space. This durable material creates a moisture-proof barrier, effectively eliminating the excess moisture that was causing damage to the foundation and floors. The CleanSpace system helps ensure that the crawl space remains dry, preventing mold, rot, and further deterioration. -
SmartJack Support System
To correct the sagging floors and provide the necessary support for the compromised joists, we installed the SmartJack support system. These adjustable, galvanized steel piers were strategically placed under the weakened floor joists to stabilize and lift the floors back into their original position. The system provides long-lasting support, preventing any future sagging. -
SilverGlo Insulation
Additionally, we installed SilverGlo, a high-performance insulation system, on the crawl space walls. This innovative product not only improves the home’s energy efficiency but also contributes to a controlled, stable environment within the crawl space, further reducing the risk of moisture problems. -
SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier
To ensure the air in the crawl space remains dry and healthy, we installed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. This energy-efficient system is capable of handling high moisture levels, maintaining a dry environment in the crawl space year-round and preventing any future humidity-related issues.
The installation process was handled by our skilled production team, led by our Foreman, Anthoni, who worked diligently to ensure each component of the system was installed to the highest standards. With the comprehensive solutions in place, the homeowner’s concerns about sagging floors and moisture buildup were quickly and efficiently resolved, providing peace of mind for years to come.
