Somers Point, New Jersey Crawl Space Insulation and Moisture Control
Challenge
A homeowner in Somers Point reached out to Quality 1st Basement Systems with concerns about his crawl space. He had been experiencing cold floors throughout the home, leading him to suspect that poor insulation was the primary culprit. The discomfort was significant enough to prompt the homeowner to seek professional help for a lasting solution.
Upon contacting us, the homeowner explained his frustration with the cold, uncomfortable living conditions and their desire to improve the comfort and energy efficiency of their home. He suspected that their crawl space was contributing to these issues, but were unsure about the specifics.
To address his concerns, our Customer Care team promptly scheduled a home inspection. During this inspection, our System Design Specialist, Phil carefully examined the crawl space and immediately identified several problems. Not only was the crawl space poorly insulated, but it also lacked a proper vapor barrier, which was causing excessive moisture to accumulate. This moisture buildup was further compromising the home’s comfort, contributing to the cold floors, and negatively affecting the overall air quality within the home.
Solution
After thoroughly assessing the situation, we proposed a multi-faceted solution that addressed the root causes of the homeowner's discomfort. Our recommended approach included three key components: insulation, moisture control, and air quality improvement.
-
SilverGlo Insulation: To combat the cold floors and poor energy efficiency, we recommended SilverGlo, a premium insulation product. This solution was designed to insulate the floor joists, keeping the warmth inside the home and improving the overall comfort of the living space above.
-
CleanSpace Vapor Barrier: To tackle the moisture problem, we suggested the installation of CleanSpace, a high-performance vapor barrier that would effectively seal the crawl space. This product prevents moisture from seeping into the area, which not only improves comfort but also helps in preserving the structural integrity of the home by preventing mold and wood rot.
-
SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier: To ensure that the crawl space remains dry and healthy, we recommended the SaniDry Sedona, a powerful dehumidifier designed specifically for crawl spaces. The SaniDry Sedona would keep the air dry, reducing the risk of mold and improving the overall air quality in the home.
With the homeowner’s approval, our production team set to work. The installation process was completed smoothly and methodically. The SilverGlo insulation was installed along the floor joists, ensuring complete coverage. The CleanSpace vapor barrier was laid and securely sealed against the walls and piers to prevent moisture intrusion. Finally, the SaniDry Sedona was installed, providing continuous moisture control and air quality improvement.
As a result, the homeowner’s crawl space was transformed into a well-insulated, moisture-free, and healthier environment, effectively eliminating the cold floors and improving the overall comfort of the home. The homeowner was left with peace of mind knowing that the issues with his crawl space had been thoroughly addressed and resolved.
