Resolving Crawl Space Water Seepage In North Bergen, NJ
Challenge
This North Bergen, NJ, homeowner in the area began to notice signs of increased moisture in their crawl space, which was becoming more evident after heavy rainstorms. The floors above the crawl space started to feel damp, and there was a distinct musty odor permeating the home. Concerned about the potential for mold growth, wood rot, and possible damage to the foundation, the homeowner reached out to Quality 1st for a thorough inspection. It was clear that water seepage into the crawl space had been slowly increasing over time, raising the humidity levels and threatening the overall structural health of the home.
Solution
Upon our team's inspection, we confirmed that the excess moisture was indeed caused by water seeping into the crawl space due to inadequate drainage around the foundation. The soil beneath the crawl space had become saturated, which allowed water to pool in certain areas, making it difficult for the space to remain dry. Following this inspection, our crew began the waterproofing process by installing our SmartPipe Drainage System along the perimeter of the crawl space. This system is specifically designed to capture and redirect water away from the foundation, ensuring that water does not accumulate under the house. The perforated pipes of the SmartPipe system efficiently collect the water and guide it to a sump pump or another discharge point, ensuring the crawl space stays dry even during heavy rainfall. This step was crucial in addressing the water seepage issue and stopping the ongoing moisture buildup that had been affecting the home. Next, we installed SilverGlo Insulation Panels on the crawl space walls. These high-performance panels are designed to provide superior insulation while also acting as a moisture barrier. Additionally, the moisture-resistant properties of the SilverGlo panels help prevent mold and mildew growth, ensuring that the crawl space remains healthy and dry. This insulation also improves energy efficiency by keeping the temperature in the crawl space more consistent, reducing the energy costs associated with heating and cooling the home. Finally, we completed the project by installing our CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System across the crawl space floor and walls. This durable, puncture-resistant liner is designed to create a moisture-proof seal, blocking water vapor from entering the crawl space and eliminating musty odors. CleanSpace also helps keep the humidity levels in the crawl space under control, preventing further moisture buildup and mold growth. The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing that their home is protected from moisture-related damage, ensuring the foundation is stable and the indoor air quality remains a top priority!
