Frigid Floors Fixed with Crawl Space Insulation in Morris County, NJ
Challenge
Cold floors in winter are always uncomfortable. This Riverdale, NJ homeowner had freezing kitchen floors in every season. It was difficult to cook breakfast in the morning and the family was wasting money on expensive heating bills. They tried putting down rugs to keep it warm, but nothing worked. One day the homeowner realized that the kitchen floor was cold because of the vented crawl space below it. He called Quality 1st Basement Systems to insulate his frigid crawl space.
Solution
Inspector Ken Peare visited the property and was shocked at how cold the kitchen floors were. After looking in the crawl space he saw that it did not have any proper insulation keeping it warm. The old fiberglass insulation was falling off the ceiling, littering the crawl space full of debris. This wasn't keeping it warm and insulated. Quality 1st Basement Systems went to work on installing crawl space insulation to keep this crawl space warm and help the floor above stay a comfortable temperature.
The installation team laid down TerraBlock foam crawl space insulation on the crawl space floor. TerraBlock is padded and thick enough to keep cold air from coming through the dirt floor and into the crawl space. It includes a built in vapor barrier to prevent moisture from coming into the crawl space, which can cause high humidity and nasty mold growth. Then, on the walls the crew installed SilverGlo graphite infused crawl space insulation. SilverGlo crawl space insulation reflects heat and traps warm air in the crawl space. This solution is economical because it will save the homeowner money on heating bills and save precious energy resources. For extra moisture protection, Quality 1st Basement Systems installed CleanSpace vapor barrier in the crawl space to prevent water and cold air from coming into the crawl space. Now, the floor above the crawl space stays warm and the kitchen is no longer as cold as the fridge!
