Basement Bowing Walls in NJ
Challenge
When homeowners of a single family two-story home in Robbinsville noticed bowing walls in their unfinished basement, they knew that it could potentially become a bigger issue if it was not addressed properly. The homeowners became concerned for the overall value of their home. Foundation walls are designed to support loads from above, not from the side. When side pressure on a wall exceeds their ability to withstand the force, they begin to bow. Upon entering the home the Quality 1st Basement Systems inspector quickly noticed the bowing along the concrete block walls. The foundation walls had bowed inward as much as 1 inch.
Solution
After reviewing their options, the homeowners decided to have Quality 1st Basement Systems install ten (10) Geo-LockTM Wall Anchors. Installing the wall anchors would stabilize the walls from any further inward bowing and potentially straighten them over time. The wall anchors were installed approximately every 5’ to 6’ along the walls. The walls anchors were installed in just 2 days by the Quality 1st Basement Systems crew with very minimal disturbance to the lawn and landscaping. After the installation of the wall anchors was complete the homeowners now have a stable wall with a warranty against any further problems. The homeowners were very pleased with the overall work completed and are happy that the value of the home has been restored.
