Homeowner Contacted Quality 1st After Chimney Separated From Home in Holmdel, NJ
Challenge
A chimney seperating from your homes foundation is a sign that you have foundation issues. When the soil underneath your homes foundation becomes too wet or dry over time, the soil becomes weak. This weak soil can no longer old the weight of the foundation causeing movement. This results in stair step cracking, vertical cracks, horizontal cracks and seperation in your foundation. The structure fo yuor home is now unstable and therefore unsafe for your family and now your property value has gone down. This is exactly why Carol R, from Holmdel contacted Quality 1st Basements. When she noticed his chimney pulling away from her home she contacted our Foundation Specialist Kenny T. right away to come and inspect and protect his foundation.
Kenny T. being one of our Senior Foundation Specialists, did a full evaluation of the perimeter of the home and recommended our Helical Piers be installed to not only stable the Chimney but pull it back towards its original position.
Solution
Our team lead by Project Manager, Victor Leon, made sure the entire area was cleared before being the preparation for the install. Victor introduced himself and his team to Carol and explained exactly what the installation entails and that at the half way mark, he would bring her back out to update her on the progress. Victor reassured Carol that at any time she could ask questions or bring any concerns to his attention.
When the area was cleared the crew began by digging out the soil to install two Helical Piers up against the Chimney. First the Piers are drilled into the ground and steel sections are then added to extend further down into the soil. The steel foundation brackets are connected to the Helical Piers and attached to the footing of the foundation. The weight of the Chimney is then transferred through each pier in competent coil. This lifts the chimney back towards its original position. The soil around the installation area is replaced and the entire system is then out of site.
Carol was amazed at how professional our crew was. Not only did she enjoy the fact that she was welcomed in the area during the installation but appreciated how respectful our crew was of her surrounding property. Quality 1st was able To deliver peace of mind that she no longer had structural concerns and worries when it came to her Chimney or homes foundation.
