Steel Support For Sinking Home in Bronx, NY
Challenge
A resident in Bronx, New York was experiencing sagging floors in their home. If floors are soft, unlevel, and bouncy, this is often due to underlying issues with the supports in the basement or crawl space. The cause of this could be a number of things. The existing columns are spaced too far apart, and the beam can become overloaded and sag between the columns. Another issue could be that the existing columns have already been settled. Weak soil can cause the existing columns to sink, which creates a gap between the top of the column and the bottom girder it was supporting.
Solution
The homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems when they saw our Google reviews. Our System Design Specialist, Javier Romero, was able to help them with a solution. Javier inspected the home and suggested they install a steel support system. This steel system would give support to the wooden beams that could no longer hold the weight of the home. Our foreman, Wilver Cardoza, installed the SmartJack Support System to permanently stabilize the home. This system is the solution for the core issue and is engineered to support large homes. These high-capacity steel supports will not replace the wooden beams but will give extra support to lift the home back to its original position.
