Sloped Floors in Manalapan
Challenge
The Matthews residence is a wood framed structure that was constructed in the mid1970’s. Only a few years after the home was built, the homeowners began to notice signs of foundation settlement, including cracks in the basement walls, cracks in drywall, sloping floors, and doors and windows that were not opening and closing properly. Over a period of about 20 years, the problem continued to slowly get worse until the home had settled approximately 5” on one side. Over the years, the homeowners patched drywall cracks and shaved the bottoms of their doors to make the home functional until they finally decided the problem needed to be fixed.
Solution
Quality 1st Basement Systems remedied the problem by installing seven (7) Foundation Supportworks™ Model 288 Helical Piers and two (2) Foundation Supportworks™ Model 288 Push Piers to permanently stabilize the foundation. The piers were installed to depths of approximately 10 feet to provide ultimate capacities of 40,000 pounds. The installation was completed in two days with very little disruption to the homeowners lawn and landscaping. Upon completion, the homeowners were able to perform their last sheetrock and door repairs and have peace-of-mind knowing their foundation is back on solid ground.
