Sagging Floors and Basement Flooding
Challenge
When super-storm Hurricane Sandy left water in a basement and crawlspace in Rumson, NJ, the homeowner decided to contact the professionals. The basement had flooded in the past and there was noticeable sagging floors throughout the home. Upon entering the home, the Quality 1st Basement Systems inspector quickly noticed cracks throughout the walls on the upper floors. There was noticeable water seepage in the basement and crawlspace, and humidity in the air. The damage to the home was easy to see and quickly raised a major concern to the family. The homeowners decided to call Quality 1st Basement Systems because they would be able to remedy both the sagging floors and basement water seepage issues.
Solution
Floors over a crawlspace usually begin to sag due to inadequate or shifting supports beneath floor joists and lumber deterioration. As the floor begins to sag it is usually associated with other issues which include cracking drywall. Quality 1st Basement Systems installed three (3) SmartJacks in the crawlspace which are designed to straighten and strengthen sagging floors over crawlspace foundations. To repair the water seepage issue in the basement, Quality 1st Basement Systems installed the Waterguard drainage system along with the Triplesafe sump pump system and battery backup in case the power ever goes out. A Sanidry XP Basement Air System was installed to dehumidify and filter the air at the same time. The Cleanspace Crawlspace Vapor Barrier System was installed in the crawlspace to prevent water vapor and humidity from passing through. By keeping the crawlspace dry, it is then protected from mold and rot. The Quality 1st Basement Systems crew was able to install the three (3) SmartJacks and all waterproofing and crawlspace products in just 4 days.
After the installation of the SmartJacks the residence was restored back to its proper positioning. The lawn and landscaping around the home were left in excellent condition. All of the waterproofing products installed will help against future storms. The homeowners were extremely pleased with the results as well as the efficiency and cleanliness of the Quality 1st Basement Systems crew. The homeowners are now confident that they can use their basement and crawlspace for storage and as extra living space.
