Job Stories From Somerset County, NJ
Bowing Foundation Stabilized in Rocky Hill, NJ

A homeowner purchased a new house in Rocky Hill, NJ and was excited to settle down and move in. However, she knew there was a problem with the foundation. The basement walls were bowing and she needed the problem fixed before she could relax in her new home. She called Quality 1st Basement Systems to fix the problem!

Jonathan Neira and his crew installed CarbonArmor on the basement walls. CarbonArmor is a wall reinforcement system that is attached to the wall with a strong epoxy. Ten times stronger than steel, CarbonArmor hugs the foundation wall and prevents it from bowing any further. The strength of CarbonArmor returns the bowing wall back into place, preventing it from moving any further. CarbonArmor is trusted, it is used by the US Department of Defense and is installed in bomb shelters. Foundation problems worsen over time, they do not get better on their own. The homeowner made a wise choice by fixing her foundation issue with Quality 1st Basement Systems!

CarbonArmor Stabilization Protects Keyport Home from Wall Failure

It's every homeowner's biggest fear. Bowing walls in the basement mean a sign of a larger problem. When Brad B. in Keyport, NJ noticed that his basement walls were tilting forward, he worried about the safety of his home. Tilting basement walls can collapse, causing the whole house to dangerously fall inward. His home was his pride, it was where his family lived and he wanted to keep them safe.

Led by foreman Juan Garcia, Quality 1st Basement Systems stabilized the foundation wall with CarbonArmor. Used by the US Department of Defense, CarbonArmor is a high-tech solution for bowing walls. The carbon wall straps are ten times stronger than steel. Once attached to the wall, the straps were covered with an epoxy resin to seal them in place. The tight contour braces the wall, preventing it from bowing further.

Brad B. is very pleased with a job well done by foundation specialists Quality 1st Basement Systems. His home is now a much safer place.

Helping Firefighters Lower Humidity in Hoboken, NJ

The chief of Hoboken’s fire departments knew what he wanted.  He wanted a dehumidifier.  He also knew what he didn’t want.  He didn’t want to lose thousands of dollars of firefighters’ equipment that was stored in the damp fire station basement where high humidity levels allow mold to grow.  Quality 1st Basement System’s waterproofing specialist, Jeff Nero, visited the chief to inspect the area and discuss the results possible with the SaniDry XP, a high-capacity, high-efficiency dehumidification system.

The ultra-efficient SaniDry XP removes the moisture from the air and blows out a dry air into the space. This system helps keep the humidity levels below 50%, reducing the chance for mold to grow.  It also has a two-stage filter system to clean the air of allergens.  The SaniDry XP seemed to be exactly what was needed in the fire station.  As a matter of fact, the chief determined that another one of the city’s fire stations could benefit from the XP as well.

Santiago Brazero, Project Manager, headed the delivery and installation to begin the process of mastering the humidity for the two fire stations, ensuring that the chief wouldn’t have to worry about the city’s firefighters having moldy gear!

Walkway Lifted and Foundation Supported in Somerset, NJ

Craig in Somerset had a walkway to his home that settled several inches.  It was a safety hazard and it also became a problem for rainwater drainage.  He had heard about Quality 1st Basement Systems’ process of PolyLEVEL and was interested in comparing that to mudjacking.

Maurice Robinson inspected Craig’s walkway.  He explained how the PolyLEVEL process would provide a better resolution than mudjacking.  He described how structural grade polymers are injected into the void beneath the slabs to lift and stabilize them.  This material is less porous than concrete (it is waterproof!) so it will not wash out or deteriorate.  Additionally, PolyLEVEL cures within 15 minutes while mudjacking can take several days to cure.  Craig was convinced that PolyLEVEL was a better solution.

Craig was also concerned with his foundation.  He knew that Quality 1st Basement Systems worked on foundation repairs, so he had Maurice inspect his crawl space.  The shimming used to support the beam was not a stable, permanent fix, so Maurice proposed the installation of SmartJacks, galvanized steel adjustable support columns.  They provide immediate and permanent stabilization.

Once Octavio Alvarez and his crew were finished with the PolyLEVEL and SmartJack installation, Craig was able to rest assured that he wouldn’t have any more tripping hazards on the front walkway and would have no worries about the integrity of his foundation.

Finding a Fix for a Wet Basement in Hillsborough, NJ

Kevin from Hillsborough, NJ was experiencing the frustration of having a continuously wet basement. He searched online for an answer and found Quality 1st Basement Systems. Kevin called Quality 1st to schedule a free estimate and learn more about a remedy for his problems.

One of Quality 1st’sbasement specialists, Kenny Tramutola, met with Kevin to design a system tailored to his basement waterproofing needs.  Jesus Alvarez-Sanchez, Project Manager, mobilized his crew to install an UltraSump and a SuperSump to discharge any basement seepage.  They also installed an IceGuard to prevent flooding should the discharge line freeze during the colder months.  A LawnScape was set in place to disperse the discharge on the lawn away from the home.  Kevin found the installation to be just what he needed to keep his basement drier!

Dry, Usable Basement Space Created in Hillsborough, NJ

Looking to make better use of her basement space, Sarah B. in Hillsborough, NJ contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems to schedule a free estimate with a basement design specialist.

Kenneth Peare visited and suggested that Sarah install the SaniDry XP, an energy efficient dehumidifier and air filtration system to keep the humidity levels low and to trap dust and allergens in the basement.  Sarah was also interested in flooring.  She selected the tongue-and-groove Mill Creek mahogany flooring.  This plastic wood-look-a-like plank flooring is totally inorganic, which means that mold will not grow on it even if the humidity levels increase.  Sarah was pleased with the newly-created usable space in her basement.

Anchoring a Foundation in Bridgewater, NJ

Finding a horizontal crack in her cinder block foundation wall was a little unsettling for Bridgewater resident Nancy G.  Unsure of where to turn for help, Nancy searched the internet. She found Quality 1st Basement Systems offering free estimates for foundation issues, so she called to schedule an appointment.

Foundation specialist Kenny Tramutola visited Nancy and completed a thorough inspection of the foundation.  He saw the horizontal crack running along one basement wall and knew that Quality 1st Basement Systems could help stabilize the foundation with Geo-Lock anchors.  This system includes anchors that are installed by rods running through the basement wall and are connected to partnering anchors in the soil away from the foundation wall.  Once connected, the anchors are tightened and the wall is permanently stabilized.

Nancy G. knew she needed assurance of a stabilized foundation and she thought the products and installation that Kenny presented would be best.  Quality 1st Basement Systems was happy to fix Nancy’s foundation and provide her with peace of mind.

Restoring a Sloping Floor with SmartJacks in Basking Ridge, NJ

Homeowner Dan C. from Basking Ridge, NJ was concerned with the foundation of the newer addition on his home.  He saw that the concrete floor in the crawl space beneath the addition was cracked and sinking.  He called Quality 1st Basement Systems to have a foundation specialist visit his home to inspect the area of concern and provide him with a free estimate for repairs.

Foundation specialist Maurice Robinson completed a thorough inspection of the crawl space area as well as the main floor of the addition.  Besides the cracking floor in the crawl space that he was informed of, Maurice noticed that the main floor doorway walls were cracking at the corners and the living area floor was sloping.  Maurice proposed the installation of the SmartJack Crawl Space Support System, which includes corrosion-resistant galvanized steel adjustable support columns.

SmartJacks provide immediate and permanent stabilization.  They can also restore stability and level sloping and sagging floors.  After the installation, Dan got the peace of mind he was hoping for: he would have no worries about the integrity of his foundation.

Resolving Basement Water Seepage in Somerville, NJ

A Somerville homeowner began to notice some seepage coming through the wall in her unfinished basement.  While flipping through the Home Improvement Guide, she found that Quality 1st Basement Systems offered a no-obligation free inspection and estimate by a waterproofing specialist, so she called to schedule an appointment.

After completing a thorough interior and exterior inspection of the basement, Kenny Tramutola, the Quality 1st Basement Systems’ waterproofing specialist, came up with an ideal plan to resolve the water issues.  He carefully explained his findings and waterproofing plans and provided a free estimate for the waterproofing products and work.

The plan included installation of a full-perimeter WaterGuard (to channel and direct any water seepage); a TripleSafe Sump Pump System (to efficiently and reliably remove water from the basement area as well as provide back-up pumps in case of pump or power failure); and an IceGuard (designed to prevent flooding in the event of frozen discharge pipes).

Kenny also included installation of a SaniDry XP, a powerful and efficient dehumidification system which can drain automatically so it never has to be emptied.  Additionally, BrightWall would be installed on the walls to keep out water vapor and humidity while it directs water seepage to the WaterGuard drain.

With this project, Quality 1st Basement Systems helped to create a drier basement for the homeowner.  Additionally, the space was brightened up and sported a cleaner look with the Bright Wall.  This homeowner was rest assured that she could put away worries about water seepage in the basement from thereon in.

Redirecting Basement Water Intrusion in Watchung, NJ

Whenever there were heavy rains, Kathleen (a homeowner in Watchung) knew what to expect: water intrusion in her basement.  She had seen it happen again and again, but finally had enough of the same result to search the internet for a resolution.  She contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems to schedule a free estimate appointment.

Kenny Tramutola, a Quality 1st Basement Waterproofing Specialist, visited the homeowner, completed a thorough interior and exterior inspection of the basement, and determined the best solution to the water problems being experienced in this home.  The homeowner received a free estimate for the proposed work after the specialist answered all questions and addressed any concerns.

Resolving to have this fixed once and fixed properly, Kathleen had Quality 1st Basement Systems send an installation crew to complete the work.  The crew, headed by Project Foreman Jesus Alvarez-Sanchez, mobilized to Watchung, NJ to fix the water intrusion problem.  They installed a full perimeter WaterGuard System (to channel and direct any water seepage to the sump pump).  A SuperSump sump pump was also installed, to efficiently and reliably remove water from the basement area along with an IceGuard (designed to prevent flooding in the event of frozen discharge pipes).  Lastly, Kathleen opted to have CleanSpace Wall System installed, a clean white vapor barrier system to complete the job.

Kathleen was undoubtedly relieved to have found the best solution to her basement water intrusion problems and Quality 1st Basement Systems was happy to help create a more securely dry basement for this Watchung homeowner.

Leaking Basement Wall in South Bound Brook, NJ

This homeowner noticed one wall in his basement leaked when it rained. After speaking with a Quality 1st Basement Systems representative at the Flower and Garden Show in Edison, he decided to sign up and get a free estimate. System Design Specialist, Kenny Tramutola, went to visit the home in South Bound Brook and inspected the water leaks coming through the wall.

Since the basement was partially finished, he recommended BrightWall, a plastic panel that attaches to the basement wall. It gives the basement a clean finished look because of its bright white coloring. BrightWall will prevent mold growth and rotting while creating a vapor barrier on the walls. Foreman, Jesus Alverez- Sanchez and his crew installed the BrightWall onto the wall where the water had leaked through.

Quality 1st was able to provide a permanent solution for the basement, giving the homeowner reassurance that his basement will stay dry even in a heavy rainstorm.

Foundation Wall Repaired in Liberty Corner, NJ

Jack from Liberty Corner noticed one day that his unfinished wall in his basement was tilting inwards. His basement is mostly finished with a man cave, a play area and a TV area so it was important that he get the wall fixed before it lead to a more serious problem. About a week later, Liberty Corner was hit with heavy rain for three straight days and water started to seep through the concrete wall. Right away Jack called Quality 1st Basement Systems for a free foundation estimate.

Jack was able to get an appointment the following week with Senior Design Specialist, Jeff Nero. Jeff did a full inspection of the basement just to confirm that this wall was the only one experiencing foundation and water problems. Jeff recommended that Jack get the CarbonArmor Wall Reinforcing System because it can be quickly installed and wont impact future basement finishing when Jack decides to finish the last section of his basement.

CarbonArmor stabilizes basement walls that are bowing or cracking. They are made from a fiber reinforced polymer, making them ten times stronger than steel. CarbonArmor will gradually pull the wall back to its original position preventing future water and serious foundation problems from occurring.

Quality 1st Basement Systems was able to provide Jack with a permanent solution to the foundation problems he was having. Jack was so satisfied with the job well done that he made an appointment for Jeff to come back out for a Basement Finishing estimate as well.

Preventing Basement Flood Possibilities in Raritan, NJ

Pat, a homeowner in Raritan, was concerned about having a wet basement.  He searched the internet to find professional help.  He contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems, waterproofing experts, to find a solution and obtain a free estimate.

Waterproofing specialist Kenny Tramutola completed a thorough inspection.  He proposed the installation of a full perimeter WaterGuard sub-floor drainage system to capture water from the walls and redirect it through channels leading to sump pump systems.  The Ultra Sump and SuperSump sump pumps were added to the proposal.  This efficient primary pump and a battery-operated back-up pump would continually provide protection against flooding in the basement.  The powerful cast-iron pump has the capability to pump 2,220 gallons of water out of the basement.  In case of a power outage or if a breaker is tripped, the battery backup system has the potential to pump more than 11,500 gallons of water out on a fully-charged battery.  Now, that’s some line of defense!

This homeowner was provided an efficient and reliable system to deter basement flooding.  Quality 1st Basement Systems sent a production crew to complete the installation, happy to be providing some relief to this concerned homeowner.

Old Sump Pump Replaced with SmartSump Pump in Blawenburg, NJ

Blawenburg homeowner called Quality 1st Basement System to fix the foundation problems occurring in the basement of their new home. The basement walls had cracks leading up to the ceiling and forming in corners of the room. The homeowner knew that if he wanted to completely finish his basement the foundation problems would need to be fixed before any remodeling is done.

Jonathan Neria and his crew installed CarbonArmor to stabilize the basement walls. The CarbonArmor strips are 10 times stronger then steel, permanently securing the walls. The strips are quickly installed and wont impact future basement finishing making them the perfect solution for the Blawenburg homeowner when he decides to start his remodeling.

Wet Crawl Space Now Dry Thanks to Quality 1st in Zarephath, NJ

Homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems when water had gotten into the crawl space creating mud and an odor. Any problems in the crawl space such as water, mold and structural issues can affect the rest of the home. Senior Design Specialist, Jeff Nero went to Zarephath, to fully inspect the damage caused by the water in the crawl space and design the solution best fit for problems the home owner was experiencing.

Quality 1st installed a Vapor Barrier System to fully protect the crawl space. Airtight doors and vent covers were installed to prevent any cold air from getting inside the crawl space. We repaired any structural damage caused by the flooding with support jacks that stabilize and protect the crawl space from future foundation problems. Next, the crawl space was encapsulated and insulated with CleanSpace to prevent water and moisture from coming through. Lastly a SaniDry Dehumidifier is placed inside to allow the dry air to circulate to help prevent any humidity from building up.

ThermalDry Floor Tiles Make a Finished Look in a Somerville Basement

A homeowner in Somerville was interested in options for finishing the floor in one area of his basement.  He had a relatively dry basement and was hoping to create another usable area.  He was considering a conventional flooring; however, he happened to come across Quality 1st Basement Systems in his internet search.  As free estimates were offered, this homeowner decided he would schedule an appointment just so he could compare the options available to him.

System Design Specialist Thomas Nehme visited the Somerville home, shared some of the quality flooring products available, and discussed how these products were engineered with basement conditions in mind.  While mold grows on organic materials when given the proper conditions, such as dampness coming through a porous concrete floor or a high humidity level in the room, ThermalDry Basement Floor Tiles would be resistant as they are manufactured from inorganic materials.  Additionally, these basement floor tiles will not crack or shatter yet they provide a marble-like appearance (in either Sandstone Gray or Canyon Beige).  The tiles would provide a nice complement to the already-existing finished area of the basement.  The floor temperature is also increased by these tiles as they create a break from the surface of the concrete floor.  Thomas provided a free estimate to the homeowner, answered all of his questions, and addressed any concerns.

This homeowner was happy to have Quality 1st Basement Systems install the flooring, knowing that they offered the best option to meet his needs.  In fact, this homeowner was so satisfied with the product, service, and installation that he requested Quality 1st Basement Systems complete another section of flooring in his basement just a few months later!

SmartJacks Stabilize Flagtown, NJ CrawlSpace

Laurie H., a homeowner from Flagtown, NJ, became a valued customer of Quality 1st Basement Systems.  With some concerns about her foundation, she scheduled an appointment to have foundation specialist Ken Peare provide a thorough inspection of her home and answer her questions.

Then Ken Peare developed a plan to meet the homeowner’s needs and provided a free estimate for the cost to resolve her crawl space foundation problems.  Laurie was happy to move forward with the work and put an end to her worries.

The installation of the SmartJack Support System, which includes corrosion-resistant galvanized steel adjustable support columns that can support over 60,000 lbs., provides immediate and permanent stabilization to a home suffering from a sinking and/or settling.  Holes are excavated for each SmartJack being installed and then filled with stone and covered with a concrete base.  The SmartJacks are then cut to size, placed where deemed necessary according to the plan developed during the inspection and estimate, and tightened into place.   This system can also level sloping and sagging floors.

Additionally, Laurie wanted to prevent colder air from entering the crawl space.  Installation of CleanSpace Crawl Space Vent Covers can provide a barrier from the outside elements.  A new EverLast Crawl Space Door also creates a weather barrier and, because it is made from inorganic materials, it will never rust or rot.  Both the vent covers and crawl space door install quickly and provide an airtight seal.

Laurie H. had no more worries after the installation and Quality 1st Basement Systems was happy to provide this long-term solution.  The SmartJacks restored stability to the home and the CleanSpace Crawl Space Vent Covers and EverlLast Crawl Space Door were a quick but permanent solution to blocking outside air from getting in through these openings.

Homeowner in Gladstone, NJ Takes Preventative Measures Against Basement Flooding

For any homeowner, water in the basement can be a problem.  The best medicine for that scenario would be to be enlist a preventative to protect against flooding.  One homeowner in Gladstone, NJ decided that was just what he needed to do.  He sought professional waterproofing help from Quality 1st Basement Systems.

System Design Specialist, Ken Peare, visited the homeowner to complete a thorough interior and exterior inspection and provide a free estimate for the best solution to meet his needs.  Ken P. answered the homeowner’s questions and addressed his concerns; then he presented the plan.  The homeowner decided to have a TripleSafe Sump Pump System installed, along with an IceGuard Discharge Line System and a LawnScape Outlet.

A Triple Safe Sump Pump System includes an efficient primary pump, a back-up pump (in case the first one fails or if there is a need for extra pumping power), and a third battery-operated pump (designed to kick in if the power goes out). The flood protection provided in each system includes a powerful cast-iron primary pump which can discharge 2,220 gallons of water per hour while the secondary pump can kick in if needed to pump an additional 3,900 gallons of water per hour out of the basement.  The battery backup sump pump is capable of pumping 11,500 gallons of water on a single battery charge.

An IceGuard Discharge Line System installed on discharge lines helps to prevent flooding during the colder months in the event of frozen discharge pipes.  A LawnScape Outlet is designed to disperse discharge water away from the home and on the lawn to prevent the water from flowing back near the foundation.

This Gladstone, NJ homeowner wanted peace of mind with flood protection for his basement.  Quality 1st Basement Systems helped him achieve that level of security by installing a TripleSafe, an IceGuard, and a LawnScape Outlet.

New Flooring, Walls, Ceilings and Windows in Belle Mead, NJ

A family living in Belle Mead, NJ had an unfinished basement that they never used. The basement was dark and cold, the windows were hard to open and not even a large rug could keep your feet warm. When purchasing the home, they planned on finishing the basement for an extra rec room/ family area but never got around to it and so they contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems.

Quality 1st Project Manager and his crew installed ThermalDry Elite Plank Flooring which are waterproof and mold resistant. The wood planks can make the floor up to 10 degrees warmer by creating a thermal break between the floor and the ThermalDry planks. EverLast Basement Wall Panels, with built in insulation, were then applied over the basement walls. Like the flooring, the EverLast Walls are also waterproof and mold resistant. Lastly the crew installed new ceiling tiles which are warrantied to be non- sagging and mold resistant. These ceiling tiles do provide a better sound barrier in the basement opposed to other ceiling options. New basement windows were installed to bring in natural light while preventing water leaks and drafts.

Now the family can actually use their basement for parties and family hangouts without being cold and uncomfortable.

Raritan,NJ Resident's Driveway And Patio Restored

The driveway and patio area of a Raritan home had cracked and settled causing dangerous tripping hazards. The concrete managed to settle around 4 inches from the ground. With the family constantly using the patio, it was important that the family have it repaired right away.  Luckily a ValPak envelope was delivered to the home and inside was a Quality 1st Basement Systems coupon for Concrete Lifting & Leveling.  Design Specialist Andrew Gagliradi, went out to inspect the home and provided the homeowner with an affordable solution. Andrew recommended PolyLevel to lift and level the slabs.

On the morning of the appointment, Project Manager Arturo Jacuinde and his crew, arrived on time. The crew drilled small holes to inject Polyurethane underneath each slab. PolyLevel Polyurethane Foam has the capacity to lift heavy force ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 pounds per square foot, therefore making it this the perfect solution for this problem. Quality 1st Basement System provided this homeowner with a solution that leveled and stabilized his driveway and patio.

The SuperSump Pump is capable of pumping 2,220 gallons of water an hour making it very reliable when it comes to keeping the basement dry. This is a great solution if there is occasional water issues but not a severe flood. Alongside the pump is the SaniDry XP Upright Dehumidifier which is a low-maintenance system that gives a dry and cleaner environment in the basement. Overall the homeowner was very satisifed with the work done by Quality 1st Basement Systems and now recommends Quality 1st to all the Hillsborough neighbors.

Damp and musty Crawl Space in Woodbridge, NJ

A crawl space is the last place in your home you are in often. it is important to always inspect your crawl space to make sure it is clean, dry and healthy for your home sits right on top of it. If you let an entire season such as summer go by without checking, a small problem can turn into a big one. This is exactly what happened to a homeowner living in Point Pleasant, NJ. With the summer being full of warm weather and sun, this homeowner forgot to inspect their crawl space. When it came time to close the summer home for the winter, they noticed a small animal crawling out of the crawl space vent. Inspecting further, they noticed high humidity and moisture inside. With the vent now open, small creatures, hot summer air or cold winter air and water could easily get inside.

They contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems right away for a free estimate on Crawl Space Encapsulation. The team installed a Full Crawl Space System which included, CleanSpace Vapor Barrier to prevent humidity and moisture from forming. WaterGuard was installed to prevent any water from entering inside. New Vent Covers were installed to seal off the crawl space, allowing it to stay clean, dry and healthy. A Crawl Space Sump Pump System known as a SmartSumpPump, was installed inside as well which has a built-in alarm system to notify the homeowner right away if it detects any water leaks.

The Homeowner was amazed at the transformation of their crawl space and relieved to know that it will now stay clean and dry during the months they are there and the months they are not.

Patio Concrete Repair in Saddle River, NJ

A homeowner in Saddle River, New Jersey noticed their concrete patio was sinking. This can happen because concrete is often poured over backfilled, and loose soil. This loose soil settles and creates a void underneath the concrete slab. Another common issue with concrete sinking is the erosion of soil under the slab. These voids cause concrete to shift and settle, creating uneven surfaces and dangerous tripping hazards.

This is done by drilling small, penny-sized holes into the concrete, and the polymer is injected into the void. The polyurethane is environmentally friendly and has expanding properties that allow for an accurate lift and leveling of the slab. This is a lightweight solution that will not add any weight to existing soil, and it has very minimal disruption to the existing concrete. Now, the homeowner does not have to worry about tripping hazards on their patio.
