A homeowner in Seaside Park, New Jersey noticed the floors in their home were sagging, their walls were cracking, and the main beams in the crawl space were unsound. These are all the symptoms of foundation settlement. When a crawl space is built, block columns could be spaced too far apart, which can lead to overloading and sagging between the columns. Weak soil can also cause the existing columns to sink or settle, which creates a gap between the top of the column and the bottom of the girder it was supporting. This can pose as a safety issue not only to the homeowner, but to the home as well.
The homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement System and our System Design Specialist, Jack Huber, was able to help them come up with a plan to fix this issue. He suggested steel support system to help stabilize the foundation. Our foremen installed the SmartJack System, which do not replace the existing columns, but they help to bring strength and stability to the foundation. This process is done by assembling the steel beams into the soil. The support beams and floor joists are immediately stabilized and the above floors and walls will be lifted and stabilized. The support system is engineered to support large homes and load-bearing wall construction.
Our System Design Specialist, Mark Kleiner designed the Ultimate solution for the sagging floor joist in the basement of this Point Pleasant, NJ home. 20 PowerBraces and 6 SmartJacks were installed for additional support to the floor joist to prevent further sagging and movement.
First, Wilver and his crew install the PowerBraces against the floor joist beams then SmartJacks were installed for supplemental support.

Our System Design Specialist, Greg Louis, provided an inspection and suggested they get a system to stabilize the wall. Our foreman, Wilver Cardoza, installed the CarbonArmor Straps which are flexible carbon fiber straps. These straps help stabilize bowing walls and prevent any foundation failure from worsening. Each strap is flexible, applied to the wall with an epoxy resin, and is 10x stronger than steel. Since the repair, the homeowner was happy to see their basement walls fully repaired.
